Reading Aloud Time with Mommy!

Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osborne
As a new homeschool mom, I love doing read aloud books with my kids.  We are started into the  Magic tree house series earlier this year, and Lady Tor Tor,  just loves them, they are a short chapter book series for earlier readers.  I have started making reading with the kids part of our morning routine, and calendar time, and our family devotions time, before we officially start school for the day.  I find that this series even keeps my 3 year old interested, and my 6 year old, does not want me to stop reading. We read 2 chapters per day now, because she just can't handle only reading one.

Today we started on book #6 in the Series. We found them on www.amazon.ca but I am sure you can find them else where.  We treasure this time as a mommy and her kiddo's and when daddy has the time, he likes to get in there too. :)

Most of the time we do our reading in our Homeschool room, on a carpet that I got from Ikea.  It has big buttons on it, and works great for little bums to pick a button to sit on.  This is a great spot for us to do our calendar time, which is on the wall right beside the carpet.  I am usually sitting in my office chair because I am pregnant and getting up off the floor is becoming more of a challenge. I try to keep the carpet time to 30 mins Tops.  This is so the littles don't get to bored and start fighting...Lady A and Emi-lou are always getting into each others hair after a short period of time. They have polar opposite personalities and they struggle to get along some days.  I however remember a time that I put my brother head through his bedroom door. So sibling rivalry is nothing new.

I am hoping that because we are homeschooling that the bonds that they form will be life long, and they will be the best of friends later in life. Right now it is all about who has what toy and what can they steal from each other. But I have noticed that they are all starting to spend more time together all in one location, and playing.  Emi-lou is our introvert and loves to have some peace and quiet to play on her own a few times a day.  Then she comes for a snuggle, and social play time with her sisters at certain times during the day. Afternoons are usually play time while her baby sister sleeps, she can claim the toys to herself.

Funny how 3 kids can come from the same parents, and be so incredibly different from each other in their personalities.  It is just amazing to me.  God is amazing that way, and genetics are just totally mind blowing!!

Blessings!!
