 June 1 1962- Oct 2, 2010

 This week my mom would be turning 55 years old.  However colon cancer has robbed us of a beautiful, creative, and loving amazing woman, almost 7 years ago, mom
received her terminal diagnosis of Colon and Liver Cancer, June 9th, 2010.
This week we will be taking our kids to Dairy queen. My mom was ice-cream lover, and so we are going to enjoy one of her favourite things, in memory of her.
One key thing I want to talk about, is that my mom was over 40 and did not have a colposcopy, or any screening for colon cancer, despite having beat Breast cancer the prior year, till she was already in stage 4 cancer.  I can not press enough, on behalf of my self and my siblings, as well as my grandparents and my Aunts and uncles. Colon cancer when caught early is very treatable, and in some cases preventable.  The loss of someone from such a cancer, comes at a terrible price, and not one that you your self or your family members want to see you go through.  My mom suffered so much at the end of her life, pain was constant, and she melted away into a skeleton. We watched a woman of deep faith, and love, dying from a horrible disease.  But despite the fact that she was dying she refused to stop living!  She told us, I am still living till I am dead.  Love Life, was her motto, and did her very best right till the day that God called her home.

Please if you are over the age of 40, and or have a family history of colon cancer please talk to your family Doctor.  There are such simple screening tests, and a colonoscopy that could be done, it could truly be the difference between life and death for you.  

My mom was just getting started into the fun stuff of life, and now my mom will not enjoy her grandkids on this earth, and she will get to retire, and she will not do the travelling that she so desperately wanted to do.  She knew something was wrong, but being the busy Nurse she was put it off, thinking it was IBS, or other bowel discomforts, due to food allergies, etc.   Please put yourself first, and take care of your behind!!   Your health, your dreams, and loves, your family, and friends are worth fighting for.  I AM BEHIND YOUR BEHIND!!!
